If you’re like many parents, then you’ve probably experienced just how difficult it is to keep your child occupied at home all day, every day. While it can be tempting to throw limits on television, video games, and cell phones to the wind, there are a number of different, easy-to-implement ways to keep your child engaged and happy at home.
In a previous post, we discussed a few fun remote birthday party packages we’re offering, so be sure to catch up on that information if you’re wondering how you can make your child’s birthday special in the midst of COVID-19. In today’s post, we’re going to provide you with a few tips you can use to keep your child engaged this summer.
As we’ll discuss in more detail below, enrolling your child in some of The Art Farm NYC‘s remote classes for kids and Virtual Summer Camp is a great way to provide them with a fun opportunity to learn something new in the company of others. Check out our current list of virtual programs!
Maintain a Routine
You’ve probably heard this tip before, but it’s worth reiterating the importance of maintaining a consistent routine not just for your child, but for yourself as well. A lot has changed in a relatively short period of time, and your child may be experiencing something like psychological whiplash.
Even if you and your family plan to stay at home throughout the summer, keep mealtimes, bedtime, and other structured activities consistent from week to week. This will provide your child with the stability and security they’re likely missing.
Enroll in Virtual Camps and Classes for Kids in NYC
As we discussed at the beginning of this post, it can be all too easy to relax screen time right now. There’s not much to do outside the home, but you don’t need to turn to video games and countless hours of Netflix to keep your child entertained.
Instead, give them an educational experience by dropping into one of our virtual classrooms. We’ve been working tirelessly to recreate the fun and excitement of our in-person lessons in a virtual atmosphere, and we know that you and your child will be impressed with just how fun online learning can be.
A few of our upcoming classes include:
- Farm Foodies Cooking Live Stream
- Animal Exploration Live Stream
- Virtual Summer Camp
Some of these classes are available as drop-in sessions for just $10. You can also purchase the Weekly Class Pass to get access to all of our virtual classes for kids for an entire week!
Find Them Pen Pals
Your child probably hasn’t seen their friends in months. They might be feeling bored or restless, and while there is no substitute for in-person interaction, becoming pen pals with one or more of their friends is a great way to give them something to look forward to while also teaching them valuable skills. They can become great storytellers as they recap the week, tell fun stories, and fill each other in on what they’ve been doing with their free time.
Start a Garden
Gardening is less common than it should be here in NYC. Sure, you might live in an apartment or townhome that doesn’t have much in terms of a yard, but that doesn’t mean that you can’t teach your child about soil, how plants grow, and how to care for a plant! If you’re looking for an activity that will provide you with more than just an educational experience, try growing vegetables or herbs that you can use later this summer!
