As a parent, you want the absolute best for your child. You’ve searched for the best schools in the area and, like most parents in the United States, have spent the better part of the last year tirelessly working to ensure that your child can learn effectively from a distance.
Much of NYC is now opening up, providing your child with the opportunity to go back to in-person learning, build relationships, and take the next steps in their educational journey. If you’re looking for a way to supplement your child’s education with extracurricular activities, consider the classes for kids offered at The Art Farm NYC. Below, you’ll find a discussion of five ways our classes could benefit your child. Look through our class schedule and sign your child up when you’ve finished reading this post!
Five Benefits of Extracurricular Activities
At the most basic level, extracurricular activities are designed to help your child deepen their education and become a more independent and well-rounded individual. The beauty of extracurricular activities is that they can either supplement something your child is already learning about, or they can introduce your child to something new and provide them with additional learning outside of the classroom.
At The Art Farm NYC, we offer a variety of classes for kids that your child may not be introduced to at their normal school. View our class list to see if there’s anything that would pique your child’s curiosity!
Better Academic Performance
Extracurricular classes and activities don’t just help children continue learning outside of the classroom — they help them learn more effectively inside it, too. Extracurricular activities teach a variety of transferable skills such as problem solving, teamwork, creativity, and memory, and more; all of which can give children’s academic performance a boost.
We believe that a well-rounded education is a cornerstone of success. In our classes for kids, we help children learn to view the world from a different perspective and gain hands-on experience they may not be getting anywhere else. From playing instruments and singing to hands-on arts, crafts, and time in our indoor petting zoo, there’s no extracurricular activity quite like the ones you’ll find at The Art Farm NYC.
After more than a year of staying indoors, your child is likely missing their friends and the social life they used to enjoy. Returning to in-person learning will benefit them immensely, but you can help them readapt to social situations and meet new people by enrolling them in extracurricular activities. Extracurricular activities will allow them to meet and interact with instructors they aren’t used to seeing every day at school, and it will also provide them with the opportunity to build their confidence around new people. They might even make a new best friend!
Exploration and Interest
As we briefly discussed above, extracurricular activities provide your child with an opportunity to discover and explore interests, both academic and non-academic. Children who take our Rocks, Smocks, and Animals class, for instance, often find a newfound interest in art and the animals in our indoor petting zoo! Many of our other classes have helped children discover a lifelong passion for music that they may not have otherwise developed. Even if your child is coming to The Art Farm NYC to pursue an interest they already have, our teachers will provide interesting points of view and information that supplements what they’re learning in school.
Skills for the Workforce
The children who visit The Art Farm are years from being able to join the workforce, but it’s never too early to start thinking about your child’s future. Many studies have shown that children who continue learning outside of the classroom are more likely to go on to college and hold higher-paying jobs when they enter the workforce. We like to think about our classes for kids as two-fold investments: Children enjoy them while they’re here, and they also provide a solid educational foundation that can be built upon as they grow older.
The Art Farm NYC Difference
As you may have already gathered, The Art Farm NYC is committed to providing children with unique educational experiences that they likely aren’t getting during their normal school day. Since 2002, we’ve worked tirelessly to develop fun and enriching classes for children of all ages that combine art, music, animal science, cooking, and so much more. Don’t Forget About Summer Activities for Kids!
Spring is in full swing, but summer will be here before we know it! We’re already enrolling students in our summer camp programs that begin on June 28 and run through August 20. We’re offering a 10% sibling discount as well as a 5% discount if you enroll your child in more than six weeks!
Summer camp at The Art Farm NYC isn’t just another class — it’s an experience that takes extracurricular learning to the next level. We’ve designed classes for kids ages 3 through 11 with themes like tropical excursion, exotic animals, superheroes, and many more. Children enrolled in full-day summer camp will also enjoy swimming lessons, walks around our neighborhood, time at our local playground, and time with the animals in our indoor petting zoo.
